This design strategy transforms compact, residential spaces on a narrow lot into a spacious, illuminated and comfortable domestic space. The building’s core is governed by the minimum requirement for a hallway and bedroom. After storage, bathroom and mechanical units are plugged in to this core, walls then expand if a room needs more space. As these rooms adjust, windows can be placed on these nooks to allow light in from all sides if necessary, mediating views in and out of the house. Although this residence is catered to the sliver lot, this design method can easily be adapted to diverse site contexts and constraints.
