POREFORM

Project Description

Our project confronts the imbalanced equation between water scarcity and flooding in Las Vegas, Nevada via a new urban system of urban runoff prevention. The surface technology that served as the active form of our project, Poreform, addresses arid cities’ need for customizable water infrastructure capable of rapid saturation in our new age of climate extremes. Additionally, the project acts to address the politics and legislation of water as a devalued currency in Las Vegas – a new civil infrastructure was needed in Las Vegas in order to reset the cultural and economic value of water.
The project is a system of absorptive surface fabric, small collection basins, and a large collection tank that reroute and capture water in the downtown area. The main collection tank is a cultural and infrastructural landmark in Las Vegas, and accommodates periodic and temporary arts installations.
