A Space for Learning
Rather than design housing for a collection of objects, the project uses the basic principles of optics to make a transformative space through the social exchange of knowledge. In response to the lack of definition of site, this project seeks to abstract the most fundamental elements of Architecture and representation. Through the projection of a Cartesian grid onto a surface within a vertical field, the ability to distinguish between column, wall, and roof is diminished. The system’s woven quality produces the ghost of a figure that is at once occupiable and ambiguous.The distinction between figure and ground is blurred. The phantom of the internal figure disappears and reappears, while vertical members appear to change their profile.
