William Henry Bishop Visiting Professor

Dr. Andy Bow is a senior partner at Foster + Partners and a deputy head of studio. He studied architecture at the Mackintosh School of Architecture, Glasgow. As a student he won numerous awards including the Glasgow School of Art Newbery Medal and the City of Glasgow Silver Medal for Architecture.

Andy joined Foster + Partners in 1996 and has worked on a wide range of projects in over 30 countries. The earliest projects he worked on include the Millennium Bridge, Albion Riverside and City Hall in London, the Queen Alia International Airport in Amman, the Ilham Tower in Kuala Lumpur and the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal in Hong Kong. More recently he has been working on the Narbo Via museum in Narbonne, the Varso Tower in Warsaw, and the Ferring Pharmaceuticals Headquarters in Copenhagen.

Andy is passionate about sustainable city planning and has lead the replanning of Trafalgar Square, the redesign of the Old port in Marseille, the Sesto Masterplan in Milan and the Foster + Partners building on the new High street of the Battersea Power Station masterplan in London.

Andy has always had keen interest in teaching and inspiring the next generation of architects and designers. He has lectured or been a guest critic in over 40 schools of architecture around the world, most recently at SciArc, UCLA, Columbia, the Pratt Institute, Arizona, New Mexico, Buffalo and Oslo. Andy is currently a visiting professor at the Bartlett school of Architecture University College London, the University of Innsbruck and is a regular visiting professor at Yale University.

He is an ARB registered Architect and became a Fellow of the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland in 2011. In June 2014, he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Glasgow for his lifelong contribution to architecture and education.
